McCoy Sculpt - finished by DarrenCarnall McCoy Sculpt - finished by DarrenCarnall
This is my 1/6 McCoy "Wrath of Khan" head sculpt to go with my previous Spock piece.

As it's only my second proper head sculpt from scratch using wax (instead of my usual 'modifications' of existing toys) I'm REALLY happy with this. I can see the improvements over my previous piece already... I can't wait to do more and get even better.

There are many sculptors that I follow on here and Facebook who completely inspire me. People like the amazing Trevor Grove ( *trev-solo ) - the likenesses this man achieves are astonishing!! One day I hope to be that good! (hell, I'd be happy with anywhere close!)

So what do you think of McCoy.. does it look like him? I'm off to do some more now... KIRK next!!!

Even in the thumbnail I could see who that was in an instant.

Absolutely uncanny. I particularly like the second-to-last angle here, but it's exceptional,  no matter how you look at it. Such incredible detail. Is this the one you painted for the other picture?

Yeah, this is a photo (well, multiple photos) of the original wax sculpt before I made a resin cast to paint. And.. thanks!! =D

Awsome, just WONDERFUL job, and I totally love Bones, so I would tell you if it wasn't the right appearance, but's it's exactly him, the eyebrouws and everything. Just a huge WOW to your work!

Very impressive Darren! I think you've got the sculpting gift, and you didn't even know it till now! You are already good, so just think how great you will be if you keep doing this! I'm glad you found out how good you are at creating art! Cheers! :0)

Michelle thank you SO much for that...!! I'm going to keep going don't worry!! I can't wait to see how things turn out and what else I can do. (and you keep making those dolls too!!) ;)

Darren, you are so welcome! I love it when I get positive feedback. So, thank you! It does my heart good to know that you are going to keep going. I plan to keep going for as long as I am allowed physically, mentally and spiritually. I am working on an elephant in ceramic clay right now, and when I get him done, I will share him here on DA. I'm still planning to try and get my art dolls rockin' and rollin' too. Thank you for the encouragement! Take care my new friend! :0)

well then your heart should do well 'cause I'm gonna be doing this until I'm 95 or something! =D

I'm the same as you, now that I know I can do this, and that I enjoy it so much I'll be doing this as long as my eyes and hands work. (and brain!) I'm always happy to encourage ANYBODY who's doing anything creative, I think more people should do it... so I hope you keep going for many many years to come ;)

Take care

second time from scratch?
that's pretty incredible.

spock was cool. very promising, but this is excellent.

Thanks man! Yeah I'm still learning. Spock let me realise I can indeed sculpt and get a reasonable likeness, and McCoy has shown me and taught me a few more things. Hopefully I'll get better and better the more I do. When I look at the people I consider to be 'real' sculptors they just astound me the work they do. And how fast they do it!! I really need to get much, MUCH faster! hah!

I just looked through your gallery, excellent work there! Very cool! :)

absolutely beautiful - impossible not to recognize him. :) just wouldn't be as good without the raised eyebrow, right? XD
